Austria for Jesus – A Wedding

Fourteen weeks ago, Loretta Brown and I left Austria after a two and a half week ministry assignment in Vienna, Lower Austria, Styria and Salzburg.  We spoke to three home groups with 20-35 people each time and presented a Seminar in Groedig near Salzburg. The message God gave us was about His Divine Design for us to live in reality rather than denial and out of our spirit to Spirit relationship with the Triune God rather than out of our souls. We taught principles from the Word of God, blessed people’s spirits, helped them discover their Redemptive Gifts and did some land assignments God gave us. One day in February, while we were there, a group of intercessors at Campbellsville University in Kentucky was propelled into an hour of prayer for Austria. “Let the sound of the Gospel echo off the mountains of Austria again!” That very day the Lord defeated a petition to establish a pagan outpost in the mountains of that land!

Evangelistic Outreach

Before we left Austria, Manfred and Milena Gruber asked Sharon if she and Martin would come back in June to perform their wedding ceremony before the Lord. They were married in 1992 before a Justice of the Peace, but want to invite friends and family to witness their marriage before God and testify to transformation Jesus Christ has made in their lives.

They have invited 120 guests of which 80 are not yet believers in Christ to a Wedding celebration on June 16th, 2012 at the Holy Cross Abbey in Lower Austria which is ten miles from Vienna in the middle of the Vienna Woods.  It is one of the most beautiful medieval monasteries of the world and has a relic of the “True Cross which is exhibited in the Chapel.

They are praying that many of them will be introduced to their Savior and come to know Him too.

Milena grew up in Bulgaria as a communist and was trained as a lawyer, who speaks five languages. She visited Austria often as a translator during her years of study. In 1991, she had a supernatural experience where she heard God tell her to stay in Austria. She met Manfred shortly after and they were married in 1992. Milena came to know Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 2000. Her life was completely changed.  As a communist, there was no room for God. She began to be concerned about her neighbors in the small village of Furth and began inviting them to study the Bible. Many of them have come to know the Lord since and the Bible Study continues. In 2010, her husband Manfred came to know Jesus Christ as Saviour.

Manfred and Milena

Martin, Sharon, and Loretta have seen God open the way in Austria to people who want more of God. As Prince Jonathan once said, “It does not matter to the Lord if He saves by many or by few.” It does not matter to us if He opens the way to big groups or little ones. God loves them all and is using us to do His astonishing End-time Work.

After Martin Luther nailed his 95 Questions on the church door in 1517, many Austrians walked to Germany to study the Bible and learn the Gospel. They brought this back home. It is estimated that some 80% of Austria trusted the Protestant Gospel. The Emperors succeeded in reversing this. After butchery and exile, the Protestants became a minority. We believe God is loosing the power of the Gospel in Austria in our day. We have the privilege to see Him at work and join Him.

To use an 800-year-old Abbey to share how Jesus Christ makes a difference today is a privilege. God is reaffirming His commitment to Austria. The situation will look different if we move as He moves.

Snow does not stop the Austria Ministry

57 Flights into LaGuardia canceled, 5 able to land

If you schedule a flight in February, be ready to pray about the snow

For some 6 months Sharon has been working toward a month of ministry in February, 2011. Many things worked together to indicate the dates: an invitation to speak, Loretta Brown’s availability for an extended trip, personal appointments, and many more. Airline reservations and hotel rooms were just finalized when the weather reports announced a Monster Storm.

They projected snow over a 2,000 mile swath from the Midwest to the Northeast of the USA. Some 100,000,000 people would be affected. On Tuesday, February 1, the airlines cancelled 6,300 flights. Sharon’s flight from Louisville, Kentucky, to LaGuardia Airport, New York, was cancelled. Pray!

The airline made available a flight via Washington, D. C. Sharon was so relieved. Then she got to Washington and her flight was cancelled. As it turned out the one flight she needed was the only one to fly. Out of 57 flights scheduled to land at LaGuardia, only 5 made it! Guess what two people were on two of those planes: Sharon Van Horn and Loretta Brown!

God can make a way for us. It is a way of faith and perseverance.

I am reminded of a testimony by George Mueller of England sailing into New York harbor in the fog. The captain of the ship did not want to proceed because of the dangers of collision without sight. Mueller told him, “I have never been late to an appointment the Lord told me to make. He will provide a way for your ship.” Sure enough, the fog cleared just in time to allow Mueller’s ship to sail into New York and dock on time.

Austria Mission, September 2010

Got here safely and had a good trip. Sat next to two young boys – 7 and 9 who are
English and live with their mom in Austria. They were visiting their Dad in New York.
They were pretty wired – ate almost whole bag of candy and played video games.
The 7 year old got sick and I had to take him back to the WC. The AUA crew was
glad for my help.

I am telling you this story because I think it is significant especially as it relates to everyday life. I believe “My times are in God’s hand”. As I desire each day to synchronize with Him and to fit into His agenda rather than mine, I experience things I may never have chosen for myself. I did not have two young boys, who needed help on my agenda, but God did. My agenda would have been a quiet plane trip where I could rest, relax and unwind from a busy schedule from the past couple of weeks. It would have been a time for me to be quiet and prepare my heart for the ministry God had planned for me in Austria.

God put these two boys right in my world for eight plus hours and gave me grace to be able to pray for them and  help in a time of need. I will not know what the effects of this time will be, but I prayed for them as God led me for them to know the Lord personally and for their lives to be blessed by His presence. Even though the thought ran through my mind,” I probably will never see them again”, who knows? Perhaps my prayers will be answered and I will see them again in Heaven and we can reminisce about the plane ride and what a great God we have, who puts two boys together with a woman from Kentucky on her way to Austria to pray for them to know Him. That would truly be wonderful!

I finished the flight by taking Jack and Noah to the door where the flight attendant took them to meet their Mom.

I continue to think about them and pray for them. If you think of them, please pray for them too.

Had a great first day. Went for a walk with Maria and Gerhard and had some good
talks. Slept for 5 hours after arrival and am up now at 3:30 AM jet – lagging. Do not
have to be anywhere until 6:00 tomorrow evening. – Milena’s women’s group.

School of Healing Prayer

Posted by Martin Van Horn on January 13, 2010 under Events | Be the First to Comment

We read in the Gospels how Jesus Christ went all over Israel bringing healing and deliverance. He also delegated his authority to his disciples, who also proclaimed the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, raised the dead and cast out demons. We are Jesus’ disciples today and we want to see him do the same things wherever we go.

Saturday evenings we are studying the Scriptures and the materials on healing prayer by Charles and Frances Hunter, and by their daughter, Joan Hunter. We are excited to see Jesus answer prayers for healing.
