Precious People: Ministry Trip to Austria, February 2008

We began the ministry at the Mics home this time. They are Romanian refugees who have built this beautiful house with few resources, hard labor, and prayer. We prayed for God to bless their home and use it for His purposes and glory.

This is a new ladies group Sharon shared with when she visited Himberg. They all attend a new Church being planted in Schwechat. One of the ladies is expecting twins in the summer. She was not certain that they would be healthy. Many people prayed and believed God to answer.

THEY ARE HEALTHY!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!

Click here to meet more of the people and groups we ministered to during the ministry trip in February and March of 2008.

Where God Sends Me: A Map of Austria

Posted by Sharon Van Horn on February 10, 2008 under Events | Be the First to Comment

Here is a map of Austria. You can see the town of Baden in the East just south of Vienna. Near Baden is Tribuswinkel where Sharon stays with the Schaffer Family who have made their home available to her to use as a base for Ministry.

This is 30 Erlenweg, Tribuswinkel and the center for our Life Connections Ministry in Austria. From here, Sharon travels and ministers to small and larger women’s groups, Bible Studies, and counsels individuals as well as couples in the areas of Baden, Vienna, and Klosterneuburg which is Northwest of Vienna.

These ladies attend a women’s Bible Study in Baden and are eager to hear how they can know God better and experience His life. They have a desire to reach their neighbors and friends with the Gospel.

Traisen is near Linz. This Women’s Bible Study reaches out to neighbors, family and friends. One precious woman from Kosovo has come to know the Lord and continues to grow in her new found faith in Jesus Christ. It is joy to see the women open up and receive God’s Word and apply it to their lives.

The Freie Christengemeinde (Free Christian Church) has invited Sharon to speak each time she has been in Austria since 2006. Last time in October, 2007 Martin and Sharon brought a message together on the theme “Are you living under the spirit of slavery or the spirit of sonship?” The sisters and brothers in this church have a desire to reach their community for Christ.

Please Pray: Ministry in Austria, February 2008

Our ministry is called Life Connections because we pray God will continue to use us to connect people to God who is the Giver of Life. As we know and walk with Him, we also become Life-givers in this world. There are so many who struggle and think they are living but do not know real Life. That is why God is sending me again to minister His love, truth, mercy and grace to people in Austria. I will be flying on February 13th and return on March 10th, 2008.

Please pray for God to connect me with the people He is calling to Life and to fit into His agenda for this time.

Sharing God’s Hope of Healing: Ministering to the Wounded

Posted by Sharon Van Horn on May 26, 2007 under Events | Be the First to Comment

In June 2007, Sharon and Rebekka Van Horn went on a ministry trip to Austria. Here they share with us some of their thoughts and experiences.

Rebekka: In His Word, God tells us: “Delight yourself in [Me] and [I] will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

My dad taught me a long time ago that God actually places those desires inside of our hearts. In the case of my mom and myself, He has placed within us a desire to minister to wounded people. Because God has placed these desires in our hearts and wants to see His people healed and restored, He has opened up another opportunity for us to minister in England and Austria in June 2007.

God has really been teaching and equipping us for what I believe is a new chapter in our spiritual journey with Him. For the past year, I have been working with under-prepared students at a small, private college. I was hired as a Writing Instructor/Specialist, but God’s plan has been so much greater than I could ever have imagined. He has provided several opportunities for me to fearlessly share my faith with some of my students. He has also allowed me to serve as a counselor and encourager to a number of students—particularly those considered the most “mischievous.” God has truly granted me favor in their eyes to the point where, in their own words, “We’d do anything for you, Bekka,” even if it means abstaining from the “things of this world.” I have also been serving as a high school youth leader for the past couple of years, which provided a spiritual training ground for me. I am looking forward to utilizing my experiences to minister to the youth in Austria and England, where I am set to speak to young people. I believe God is expanding my generations.ministry and wants to use me to impact future

Sharon: “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven…..” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

As I walk with the Lord each day and seek His wisdom and direction, I have been learning the importance of recognizing God’s timing in matters. There are two types of time. Chronos is time as we experience in everyday life. Kairos is time when God breaks in and does something supernatural. I have experienced such a time in the past few months as God has led me into a new season. I have been serving Him for the past eleven years through Milligan’s Island. There have been countless Kairos encounters with people in the secular marketplace, as God used me to bring hope and encouragement into the business world.

After finishing my daytime job, I have often counseled young people, adults, couples and families. I have used lessons I learned through the Bible, as well as my training as a Victim Chaplain, to coach and mediate contentious relationships. Even though Milligan’s Island served as my full-time job, counseling has really been my heart’s desire – to see people experience freedom and healing, enabling them to grow, develop, and become all God has destined them to be.

As I took on more counselees, I prayed God would allow me to minister to the wounded full time. God clearly answered my prayer. At the end of 2006, He directed me to prepare for a new season and pray for prayer and financial partners in this ministry. The Directors of Life Connections, Inc. followed the pattern of Acts 13:2 and “set me apart to the work the Holy Spirit has called and prepared me to do” on April 30th.

There are many counselees who cannot afford a counselor or mediator but need help dealing with the trauma and abuse they have endured. On behalf of individuals such as these who cannot afford to pay for the help they need, I am praying for sponsors who (through God’s leading) are willing to help pay for the counseling these people require.

Please pray and ask God what part you have in this ministry. He will direct you. I would appreciate knowing His response to your prayers. Thank you.

Our Fall Ministry: Be a Part of It!

Please pray as Sharon flies early September from JFK to Vienna. She leads a women’s group in St. Pölten, Lower Austria, then she is doing business consulting with the Schaffers. She has a women’s Bible study in Baden and one in Traisen.

On the way to visit Maria Schaffer’s family, they will minister in a home fellowship. After their return, Sharon will be in St. Pölten again and Baden.

Later in the month, she flies to England and takes the train to Scunthorpe. The ministry schedule in England will include teaching on Sundays as well as Bible Studies during the week. The Fellowship plans an outreach meeting and will provide a meal and evangelistic message for many needy people in the town. We have been praying for these outreaches over the past months and Sharon looks forward to being a a part of this one. She is praying to be prepared for whatever doors the Lord may open.

  • Please pray for resilience and spiritual insight.
  • Already the Lord has been giving her many things to share that have been developing over the last few months. She is relying on Him to help her put it all into order & help her present it.
  • These preparations on top of full-time work can be tiring. We thank you for your prayer support.
  • Pray for safety and health. Pray the Lord gives her just the right words for the people and their needs. She wants to fit into the Lord’s agenda and what He is doing.
  • The Lord is using these long-standing connections to let His life flow from believer to believer and to seekers as well.

Europe Ministry Trip, September 2006

By staying in touch with the Schaffer family (Gerhard, Maria and Early), Sharon has not only been able to bless them in their needs, but has been given opportunity to share in a number of women’s groups, Bible studies and home fellowships. They are spread from the Danube valley of Lower Austria to the mountains of Styria. Last Summer, our friend Heidi, originally from Germany, was able to come along to minister as well.

The Eilen family was part of our church in Austria until 1995. They have had some ups and downs, but continue to trust the Lord. Their son, Sebastian, had the privilege of attending Gordon College, a Christian institution in Massachusetts. We got to be there for his graduation.

Sebastian is back in Austria with his family. He would like to be a missionary businessman to China eventually, as God provides. He caught the vision studying Chinese and spending a semester in China. Right now he waiting to do his alternative military service. The Eilen family is another contact we still treasure from our time in Austria. Sharon looks forward to catching up and ministering to them while she is there.

Introducing: Martin & Sharon Van Horn

Called originally to the Connecticut Shoreline in 1976 to plant a Gospel-preaching church in Madison, we have been back since 1995, after 14 years in Austria, Europe, doing mission work. Life Connections has been teaching and encouraging people in Connecticut and Europe since 2001.

We have kept up connections to friends in England and Austria, traveling annually to preach, teach and counsel as they have invited us.

In the Summer of 2005, our daughter Rebekka accompanied Sharon to Scunthorpe, England where the Longstaffs have a powerful outreach in worship, deliverance and mercy. We know of no one better to pray God for a blessing on Bekka and her own ministry.

From Scunthorpe, Sharon was invited across the River Humber to New Life Church and The Vineyard Church in Kingston upon Hull. Many women responded to the Inner & Outer Beauty Outreach that Sharon had developed while we were still working in Austria.

Our son, Joel, took time off from his web programming job near Washington, DC, to visit his old friends, David & Audrey Longstaff and their daughter, Helen and her family. He and Bekka grew up enjoying their love and great cooking.
